Short tips

Mounting an iso – Example:
mount -t iso9660 -o loop /home/downloads/pup.iso /mnt/Image
The ‘-t’ option specifies the filetype – this is optional.
This command works with both ISO and MDF images.

making a floppy image file from a bootable floppy to use when making a bootable cd
dd if=/dev/fd0 of=/tmp/floppy.img

Battery check:
grep -F capacity: /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info
Notice that the BAT0 part of the command may be different on your laptop, eg, compaq nc6000 names the batteries, C137 and C138, so replace BAT0 with C137 or C138. look in the /proc/acpi/battery/ directory to find the name of your battery.
