Meeting – 6 attending, 3 sessions

Today we hit the dizzying height of 6 members!
Dave, Colin, Tony, Mike, Les and a new face, Rick. Welcome Rick.

There was lots of activity today, with 3 sessions being run.

Everyone took a look at an Acer Aspire Revo that Rick had kindly brought to the LUG. These are fantastic bits of kit and a can handle 1080p HD video with ease, all for under £200! Wow.

Then we split into 3 sessions.

Tony, Rick and Les took a look at Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) Alpha 3 running on the Acer Aspire Revo.
This Alpha version does not have the new Ubuntu branding, that comes with the Beta (released on the 18th March 2010).
The communication applications (Empathy, Evolution and Gwibber) are all part of the panel by default, similar to 9.10.
From what we could see (at this time) there is not much difference between 10.04 and 9.10, but I am sure the Beta will change this.
Everything ran really well with the Acer, and we played with Wine and installed Spotify

Mike and Dave worked on creating a website using Drupal (I wouldn’t mind taking a look at that myself 😉 )

Colin and Mike got to work on Colin’s netbook and printer. For some reason CUPS wouldn’t set up Colin’s printer. After some tinkering, and alot of hardwork, a printed page was produced! Woohoo!

Les, and Rick also talked about Android phones and apps (we both have Android phones)

Well it has been as busy day…

But a final newsflash…from the top bod at Crunchbang Linux Here
Ubuntu and a new Crunchbang in the same month, I am a lucky so and so.

See you all next week.
